Your first three-shot service post

By the end of this lesson you'll have a shot list for one real appointment and a posting outline you can copy straight into your notes. It takes about fifteen minutes to read and fill in.

Examples are written for hairstylists, but nail technicians and estheticians can swap in their own service at every step.

Step 1 · Pick one service and one detail

Choose a service on your books this week that shows a visible change. Then name the single detail a future client should notice — a soft root, a crisp bob line, defined curls, a clean cuticle, a smooth brow arch. That detail decides your close-up.

Write the service, who it's for and the detail in the worksheet. Plain words are best: describe the person the way they'd describe themselves.

Step 2 · Plan your three shots

A service post needs only three short clips or photos. Each answers one question for the viewer: where did we start, what did you do, and how did it finish?

01

Line drawing of a client seated facing the salon mirror

Setup / before

Sectioning at the chair, client facing the mirror.

02

Line drawing of a brush applying colour to hair strands

Process detail

Application or technique close-up.

03

Line drawing of finished wavy hair from behind

Finished service

Show the final look, from behind or side.

  • Setup / before. Show the starting point where appropriate: hair sectioned at the chair, or the client facing the mirror. If a before shot would make your client uncomfortable, film your tools and set-up instead.
  • Process detail. Film your named detail up close for three to five seconds: the brush at the root, scissors along the line, a curl being defined.
  • Finished service. Match the angle and light of your first shot so the change is easy to see. Back or side views work well if your client prefers not to show their face.

Step 3 · Film it steadily

Face your client towards soft light, wipe your lens, hold your phone vertically at eye level and keep each clip short. Steady and simple beats fancy. Tap each card above as you film that shot.

Step 4 · Write the caption

Use three lines: the service and who it's for, the detail to watch for, and one next step. Your worksheet builds the outline for you as you type — check the live posting outline, then copy it.

Exercise: fill in your worksheet

Complete every field in the caption worksheet for one appointment you have coming up. Treat the examples as practice prompts, then replace them with your own words.

Practice example: Service — balayage refresh. Audience — clients wanting low-upkeep colour. Detail — soft blended root. Shots — sectioned at the mirror; brush at the root; finished waves from behind. Call to action — message me to ask about a consult.
